Thus, the students made visits to the sites and monuments of Taroudant including the ramparts, the historic gates, the Kasbah, the Ibrahim Roudani garden, the great mosque, the Zaouïas and the medina.

These visits to monuments and heritage sites (April 15 to 19) are supervised by a team of heritage professionals, including site curators and inspectors of historic monuments.

In a statement to MAP, Mouna Bel Bakri, in charge of educational programs at the Foundation for the Safeguarding of Cultural Heritage of Rabat, stressed that this initiative benefited students from 15 primary schools and 20 qualifying high schools as part of educational programs of the Foundation “I discover my heritage-Taroudant” and “I draw my heritage-Taroudant”.

These two programs are launched in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, as well as the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, and the United Nations Educational Organization, science and culture (UNESCO) and in collaboration with ICOMOS Morocco and the National Institute of Agronomic Research, she said.

For his part, the coordinator of heritage programs at the Regional Academy of Education and Training of Souss-Massa, Miloud Azerhoun, said that the organization of these visits to the sites and monuments of Taroudant for the benefit of schoolchildren is is part of the implementation of the partnership agreement linking the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports and the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat.

And to add that this educational initiative aims in particular to strengthen cultural and artistic education in educational processes.

For her part, the regional curator of cultural heritage in Souss-Massa, Zineb Amrani indicated that this educational action which targets schoolchildren, college students and teachers in the town of Taroudant aims to promote the cultural heritage and historical sites of this thousand-year-old city.

According to the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, educational programs were launched in Taroudant to educate and increase awareness among the city’s children of the importance of safeguarding historic monuments and sites, particularly in response to the challenges posed by natural disasters including the Al Haouz earthquake which occurred last September.

Through its numerous projects, the Foundation aims to transmit heritage values ​​to young people and awaken their curiosity about their cultural heritage, encouraging them to discover, appreciate and protect historical treasures, thus promoting their personal development and contributing to the preservation of the cultural wealth for future generations.

The Foundation sets up with its partners, educational kits and tools to facilitate access to cultural heritage and their concepts, in particular “The kit I discover my heritage-Taroudant” which contains activities of research, expression, debate, writing on subjects relating to the city’s heritage.

It also raises awareness among schoolchildren through plastic and artistic creation through its program “I draw my heritage” which encourages young people to research, create and develop their imagination for the preservation of heritage.

The teachers and educational staff who supervise these classroom programs benefit from training sessions supervised by professionals in culture, heritage and the visual arts.
