Warhorse Studios has officially announced Kingdom Come Deliverance 2the sequel to his 2018 RPG. This sequel will be published on PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 in late 2024.
In the game we return to 15th century Bohemia to follow in the footsteps of Henry, the protagonist of the first installment, who continues his evolution from his humble origins as a blacksmith to experiencing a series of events that will put him in front of Sigismund of Luxembourg himself. . Along the way, Henry will move and leave his mark in different historical locations in the central Europe of his century; The permanence of your decisions and realistic and demanding combat are once again at the center of the proposal.
Last week we were able to attend a digital presentation in which several of those responsible for the game (including the actors who give voice and face to the main characters and the controversial Daniel Vavra, director of the studio and the game) spoke about the ambitions behind the project, in which they seek to reflect the experience gained with the first installment and also the new conditions in which this second part has been developed: the team now totals 250 people, something that they hope will allow them to do the type of game that they were unable to make with the first installment due to lack of resources.
There is talk of a map twice as big, of a more realistic and visceral combat than that of the first installment (in which, in addition to the melee heavily based on weights and distances, some rudimentary firearms are added, for example ) and a broader story with more cinematics; The idea is once again to faithfully represent, asterisk there, the way people lived in that region in the 15th century, and the truth is that in the presentation you could see very impressive images, both of towns and cities (much more present in the sequel) and the natural landscapes through which Henry moves. The scale of the battles is another point in which they seem to have sought to go one step further: one of the first scenes of the presentation was a large-scale siege.
For the rest, the truth is that the presentation was somewhat lighter than perhaps one would expect from a game like this. Beyond the points where it is easier to see echoes of past controversies (the game seems to have the same tone as the first: epic, glorifying a mythical past, almost comically masculine), the presentation discussed, for example, the greater impact of your actions on the world around you. City dwellers will eventually get to know you if you give them reasons to; If your daily life consists of getting drunk in taverns and getting into fights, that is the fame you will end up having and people will treat you accordingly. The same if you dedicate yourself to stealing, or if you help solve the town’s problems. That’s where a good part of the role in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will go, it seems; one of the game’s designers commented at the event that the intention was to surprise with the amount (and type) of things you can do and the impact they have on your Henry.
Much importance was also given to Hans, Henry’s friend and, it seems, a very important character in this sequel. It was talked about bromance, in those terms, and their relationship seems to be crucial to the story; There wasn’t time for many details about their relationship or the direction they’re looking to take it, although we did get the chance to witness a little dick joke.
It wasn’t the most subtle joke ever, of course, and I wouldn’t expect from a game like this the kind of subtleties that perhaps someone more optimistic than me might expect from this brotherly relationship between Henry and Hans. Beyond that, I insist, the presentation focused on emphasizing the more and the better, on taking advantage of the opportunities lost in the original now that the resources are in favor of the study; We will have to see how far Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 goes when it comes out, ideally without controversy involved: surely the worst thing about the original was that, when the dust of the interviews on far-right websites and the supposed historical fidelity settled (and despite some interesting ideas, like those in combat), he didn’t have much to say.
