The Spanish Football League said on Monday that it had recorded record total revenues of 5.69 billion euros for the 2022-2023 season. Revenues increased by 17.8 percent compared to the previous season, and exceeded the 5.07 billion euros recorded in 2019-2020.
Growth was fueled by record commercial revenues exceeding 28.6 per cent, as well as growth in matchday revenues of 36.9 per cent thanks to record stadium attendance, as clubs recovered from the impact of the Covid pandemic for the second season in a row.
The Spanish League broke the barrier of 15 million spectators for the first time in the history of Spanish football, with an average attendance of 72 percent during the 2022-2023 season.
The financial results also included “unusual operations for the competition” carried out during the season.
Revenue from transfers rose slightly to 679 million euros from 402 million euros a year ago, but remained under 1.12 billion in the 2019-2020 season.
Investments were also record, amounting to €848 million in infrastructure. This included investment by Real Madrid to renovate the iconic Santiago Bernabéu stadium and its surrounding areas.
