This Collection, composed of 200 pieces of historical and cultural importance, represents the diverse regions and ethnic groups of Morocco, from the Atlas Mountains to the southern provinces.
Exhibited for the first time outside the Kingdom, this collection from the Palais Royal represents a unique window on Moroccan culture.
Open to the public until May 20, 2024, the said collection of silver jewelry, which constitutes an important part of the permanent exhibition of Oudayas of Morocco belonging to the National Museum of Ornament in Rabat, pays tribute to the artisans who meticulously chiselled these exceptional pieces and, in particular, to the women who have preserved these traditions.
These artifacts, presenting various techniques, shapes and materials, reveal the regional characteristics of the main centers of jewelry production in Morocco and reflect the rich heritage of the Kingdom, sublimating artistic know-how in wire work, inlay and the use of coral, amber, glass, beads and coins.
Common motifs, including geometric shapes and stylized depictions of nature, are linked to the Amazigh way of life, echoing its deep connection to nature and the environment.
This exhibition, enriched by a palette of Berber jewelry from the Royal Palace, is organized by the National Foundation of Museums of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha and is coordinated by Adel El Fakir, General Commissioner of the Year Qatar -Morocco 2024. It constitutes the inaugural program of this Cultural Year, which spearheads lasting cultural partnerships between Qatar and other countries.
An initiative aimed at strengthening relations between nations and their peoples, “years of culture” has designated Morocco as Qatar’s partner for this year 2024.
The year will be punctuated by major artistic exhibitions, festivals and cultural events in each of the two countries. No less than 80 events are planned.
