An event of memory and tribute to those who resisted the dictatorship, entitled “1967-1974: From the Dictatorship of the Colonels to the Postcolonization”, is organized by the Graduate Program Newer and Modern World: History, Folklore, Anthropology, the Department of Modern History of the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Ioannina and the Association of Imprisoned and Exiled Resistance Fighters 1967-1974.


The event will take place tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 pm, at the “Dim. Hatzis” Cultural Center, 57 years after the coup of April 21, 1967 and 50 years after the Postcolonization of 1974. The event is also an open call to the local society for the rescue and highlighting of documents and testimonies of the period 1967-1974.
The event will begin with greetings from the mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Bega, the president of the Department of History and Archeology of the University of Ioannina, Anna Machira, the director of the Department of Modern History and the Graduate Program “New and Modern World: History, Folklore, Anthropology” Leda Papastephanaki and the representative of the Association of Imprisoned and Exiled Resistance Fighters, Daniel Spartiatis.
The program of speeches is as follows:
18.15 Alexandros Giannakenas, postgraduate student of Modern-Modern History – “Call for your case”: files and certificates of social opinions from the Civil War to the Post-colonial period.
18.30 Grigoris Kolidas, dr. Recent and Contemporary History – Substitute satire during the 1967-1974 dictatorship: the case of the theater revue.
18.45 Dimitris Verionis, historian-author – Murders and suspicious deaths during the dictatorship.
19.00 Ilias Skoulidas, assistant professor of Modern Balkan History – Seemingly paradoxical: politics and diplomacy between Greece and Albania during the Junta of the Colonels.
Testimonies – Interventions: Giorgos Makis, Dina Bada, Daniel Spartiatis, Vangelis Avdikos.
The event will be coordinated by the associate professor of European History Lambros Flitouris and the assistant professor of Modern and Modern Greek History Nikos Anastasopoulos.
From Friday, April 19, there will be an exhibition of books and documents for the period 1967-1974 on the ground floor of the Central Library of the University of Ioannina.
