At the end of January, Judith Rakers said goodbye to her job as a “Tagesschau” presenter and started a new chapter. Now she draws a first conclusion.

“After 19 successful and exciting years at ‘Tagesschau’, it is with a heavy heart that I decided to leave” – with these words Judith Rakers announced her departure as ARD news anchor in January. The 48-year-old explained this decision by saying that it was time to “direct the focus of my life on other projects.”

Judith Rakers explained on Instagram that her “great passion” has long been for topics such as “growing vegetables, nature and gardening” away from the TV cameras. Since her last “Tagesschau” on January 31st, the journalist has dedicated herself, among other things, to the production of sustainable products for her own brand as well as a podcast and a guide on home farming. She also published the children’s book “Judith’s Little Farm”.

“The new beginning totally worked for me”

A big career change that wasn’t easy at first, as the 48-year-old reveals. “There were setbacks, not everything always worked,” Judith Rakers told RTL on the sidelines of the “WoMen On Top” event in Düsseldorf. But now everything has settled down. “Now I have a self-sufficient garden with over 70 to 80 types of vegetables and fruit, a great online shop, a magazine, the books all work very well,” she said happily.

Her conclusion: “The new beginning totally worked for me in terms of happiness in life and also my professional home,” emphasizes the moderator. Incidentally, she learned the courage to take this big step from her father, who raised her alone. “My father always taught me to do things and to be courageous, to tackle them, even if you might not be able to do them yet,” says Judith Rakers.
