Service by prior appointment at Caisse Nationale de Santé (CNS) agencies is here to stay and the return of the previous model is not expected, at least for now, as stated by the Minister of Health in a parliamentary response this Thursday, to deputy Mars di Bartolomeo, from LSAP.
“Taking into account the positive experience of the pilot phase, it is not currently planned to reintroduce time slots during which the CNS receives users, without prior appointment”, stated Martine Deprez.
The appointment system starts on May 2, but the minister highlighted, in the same response, that an evaluation will be carried out after three months, “to measure efficiency gains and improvements” for both beneficiaries and workers in the agencies. “If necessary, the conclusions of this assessment will lead to the introduction of adjustments,” she added without giving further details.
As part of the change to advance booking in the service model, the extension of opening hours at the main branches (Luxembourg City, Differdange and Esch-sur-Alzette) was defined. Therefore, from May 2nd, the three branches will be open daily, by appointment, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.
“This extension will allow 300 additional appointments to be made per day, thus increasing availability for beneficiaries”, according to the minister.
Dudelange pilot project
The decision to introduce the system by appointment in agencies is the result of the experience of the pilot project that took place for three months at the CNS branch in Dudelange, and in which service was only available by prior appointment.
According to Martine Deprez, this “allowed queues to be much shorter and waiting times to be reduced”, with agency professionals reporting that requests were processed in a more calm and efficient manner.
CNS agencies will now operate by appointment only
“Based on this experience, and with the aim of better serving its beneficiaries, CNS now offers the possibility of making appointments at all its branches”, he added in the parliamentary response.
