The singer Francis Lalanne and Dieudonné announced that they would create a joint list for the European elections, trying to be “an alternative to political dictatorship”, against “the Republic”, which they believe is “the opposite of democracy”.

Under the banner of “Free France”, the list presented itself as a “coalition of “civilian” associations. “Many times, we have faced the republican system in a scattered way. The time for unity has come on the Boulevard des Européennes, explained Francis Lalanne.

The Republic imposes on citizens an optional system which consists in voting and, by voting, abandons human sovereignty: in other words, the Republic is the opposite of democracy. In the case of elections to the European Parliament, the members of the list will not have the power of decision, (which will) belong to the assembly of citizens that would impose responsibilities on them”, he explained. “Our elected officials will not make any decisions.”

The comedian Dieudonné, for his part, presented himself as “a cog in this great mechanism of smoke and mirrors, cynicism and lies” of the European Parliament.

“I think it’s my place: as long as you’re voting for a comedian, you might as well vote for a professional,” he said. The one who has been convicted 31 times, mainly for racial insults and incitement to hatred, claimed to be “calm”, extolling “respect for all, love and forgiveness”, and that he saw in his “role” as an MEP a way to “remove the employees”.

“They made a monster out of me, the monster appears before them,” he summed up.

Among the other people announced on the list, Christian Cotten presented himself as a “crazy psychologist and psychotherapist”. This anti-vaccination figure (like Francis Lalanne) and the conspiracy field has been questioned in the past because of his proximity to and protection of sectarian movements.

He was already on the list for the European elections in 2009 under the leadership of Dieudonné (1.30% of the votes cast), who put together the Anti-Zionist Party, which has since been dissolved.

The comedian had already appeared on the EuroPalestine list five years before (1.83%). Francis Lalanne, for his part, led the list of the Yellow Alliance, which was intended as a political extension of the “yellow vest” movement, during the 2019 European elections (0.54%).
