Initiated by UM6P France, this meeting shed light on the theme of the 4th edition of Science Week, which will be held from February 12 to 18 at UM6P in Benguerir around “Transitions”. It was thus an opportunity to look at the multiple transitions underway in the world and in Africa, in particular, notably material, climatic, digital and economic, and to highlight the commitment of the UM6P in this direction. .
“The Science Week, which will take place on the Benguerir campus of UM6P, will be dedicated to the exploration, in particular, of material, agricultural, energy, climatic, digital, robotic, economic, financial, civilizational and societal transitions. , moral, medical and biotechnological,” indicated, on this occasion, the general director of UM6P France, Fahd Benkirane.
The University has set up a scientific program rich in debates, panels and exchanges, with the presence of eminent scientific figures of international renown, he said.
“The UM6P is taking up a major challenge by positioning itself as a key player in the transition in Africa,” indicated, for his part, Raphaël Liogier, scientific director of the IAS (Institute for Advanced studies) and holder of the Chair of Transitions at UM6P, initiator of the Science Week theme.
And to underline that Africa embodies a ”fertile ground for large-scale solutions, capable of solving not only its own challenges, but also of contributing to the resolution of global problems”. “This is the very origin of the founding of UM6P,” he said.
Morocco, by nature, is “a country that takes charge”, thus demonstrating its desire to take an active part in resolving local and global challenges, the expert further noted.
Saâd Tazi, mission manager to the President of the UM6P in Benguerir, for his part, indicated that the commitment of the UM6P extends beyond national borders, adding that it aspires to play a role “essential” in the training of future Moroccan and African generations.
This vocation, he said, is ”deeply continental, aimed at empowering the future citizens of this world to evolve in a conscious and proactive manner, taking into account and assuming responsibility for current issues”.
And to observe that the theme of Science Week ”is a natural fit, reflecting our daily reality marked by the multiple facets of transitions, in all their dimensions”.
Science Week will question, in particular, the plurality of transitions underway and the resistance to these transitions (fear of artificial intelligence, resistance to lifestyle habits, etc.). It will also focus on “the transition which is neither only an evolution, nor only a rupture, but a change of balance”, as well as on the need for humanity to change its way of thinking and acting in order to ensure its survival.
This meeting will also be punctuated, among other things, by shows, all related to the theme of transitions, as well as the broadcast, in world premiere, of a documentary film on the cloning revolution, produced by the explorer Luc Hardy.
The first international branch of UM6P, UM6P France, which was recently launched, aims to be the “bridge” that UM6P intends to create between Morocco and Africa on the one hand and France and Europe on the other hand. It offers executive training and specific support for researchers and innovative entrepreneurs interested in the development of the African continent.
With a main campus in Benguerir, near Marrakech, and campuses in Rabat and Laâyoune in Morocco and today in Paris, UM6P, an avant-garde Moroccan university, gives priority to research and innovation relevant to Morocco and Africa, focusing on subjects such as industrialization, food security, sustainable development, Artificial Intelligence, health and even economic and social sciences.
