Speaking during a press conference dedicated to the 8th edition of the National Crafts Week, under the theme “Craftsmanship, a lever of development serving the influence and protection of tangible and intangible heritage “, Ms. Ammor indicated that this initiative constitutes an opportunity to pay tribute to Moroccan artisans who contribute to the preservation of national heritage as well as to the influence of Morocco internationally.

The minister, in this sense, underlined the importance of craftsmanship which plays a fundamental role in employment in Morocco, with an integration rate of young people trained in this field of up to 90%, noting that the sector has experienced numerous developments, thanks to the efforts made by the ministry and all partners and stakeholders.

Referring to the program for transferring skills and transmitting know-how linked to craft professions, Ms. Ammor said that it is a program developed by UNESCO and which consists of selecting a certain number of professions threatened with disappearance, specifying that six professions have already been selected in this context.

The idea is to ensure the preservation of the Kingdom’s heritage through the encouragement of master craftsmen carrying unique ancestral knowledge and skills to share their knowledge and skills, as well as through the encouragement of young people to learn , reconstruct and recreate the artisanal heritage, while offering them a qualifying training program, she maintained.

For his part, the general director of the Maison de l’Artisan, Tarik Sadik, indicated that this edition of the National Craft Week plans a rich and varied program with an opening marked by the Forum “International Art And Craft Connect “, which is intended to be a platform for discussing subjects of common interest, global issues and problems in the sector as well as sharing good practices in the field of crafts.

This edition, he said, will also be marked by the holding of the 2nd edition of the International Carpet and Floor Coverings Fair which highlights the know-how and expertise of Moroccan artisans, transmitted from generation to generation through a selection of handmade products that incorporate new trends.

And to continue that this Show will take place over 4 days, of which 2 days will be reserved for professionals in the sector, while the last two will be open to the general public wishing to discover the selection of products on display.

The event also includes “Masterclasses” led by national and international experts around themes relating to product certification, boosting exports and improving access to foreign markets, as well as the levers of acceleration and digital transformation of craft operators, according to the CEO of the Maison de l’Artisan.

“B2B Meetings” between innovative craft businesses and international buyers, a “Sourcing tour” targeting production units and showrooms in several cities in Morocco, in addition to marketing operations in busy areas during the holy month of Ramadan, We will also mark this 8th edition, noted Mr. Sadik.

And note that the partnership between the National Foundation of Museums and the Maison de l’Artisan will give rise to an exhibition of works of artistic crafts at the National Museum of Adornment in Oudayas (Rabat) allowing the public to go to meet the exceptional works created by around twenty renowned Moroccan master craftsmen.

Organized after the great success of the 7th edition in December 2022, the 8th edition of the National Crafts Week will allow Moroccan artisans to meet professional buyers, prescribers, architects, designers and representatives of major brands and centers international distribution through various events and activities.
