The Command of the Joint Task Force Omega reported on the event that occurred in the department of Meta, where troops accompanying the Attorney General’s Office were detained by approximately 60 people in the Alto Caño Cafra village, municipality of Vista Hermosa.
During a procedure raid for environmental crimesa platoon formed by three non-commissioned officers and 31 soldiers was illegally detained by the communitypresumably instrumentalized by the “Marco Aurelio Buendía” commission of the FARC dissidents. These demanded the presence of a local public official at the scene.

Mayor Juan Andrés Gómez López went to the village to talk with the population and address their demands. It was agreed that these demands will be met to allow the mobility of the retained troops. The United Nations will be present to mediate and reach agreements with the population for the release of the soldiers.
The facts have been communicated to the Oversight, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism, and all the corresponding legal actions will be taken before the relevant authorities, the Army mentioned.
“The Omega Joint Task Force, in compliance with the constitutional mission, will continue to carry out stabilization and support tasks for other state entities within a unified action,” the Army mentioned in a statement.
