/ The Iraqi tennis referee, Shaima Ali Hussein, is one of the most prominent and oldest referees who entered the field of women’s arbitration alongside her fellow distinguished Iraqi female referees, especially since she mastered the laws of the game, which are considered the most stringent in sports laws, and what helped her in this is that she was a female player. Shaima Ali, during her talk to Agency, indicated that she started as a chair referee (second class), and that her goal is to advance in the arbitration ladder and reach the international arbitration badge to lead international matches like the referees of other countries.
Ali pointed out that “Dr. Bedaa Kilan, a member of the Executive Office of the Olympic Committee, provides her with support to succeed in her arbitration career and reach the furthest point.”
She stressed that “the female sporting component in Iraq has recently witnessed a wide demand for playing tennis, refereeing and training, especially after the game received great support from the Iraqi Olympic Committee and a member of the Executive Office, Dr. Bedaa Kilan, who had an effective and major role in developing Iraqi women’s sports.” in general”.
Shaima Ali pointed out that the Olympic interest and the Central Federation encouraged her to accept the challenge and develop, when she obtained the second-class refereeing badge, after she had previously held the badge as a third-class referee, stressing that today she is seeking to reach the best female arbitration classification because her ambition places her alongside the class referees. She explained that the experience of developing women’s refereeing, which the Iraqi Tennis Federation was keen to make successful in Iraq, has restored the desire and hope of Iraqi female referees, coaches and players to practice tennis freely, after a significant decline witnessed by this sport in previous decades.
Ali concluded by saying: “This is what prompted me to raise my ambitions in order to achieve the international badge, and for my ultimate future goal to be officiating internal and international matches and tournaments and representing Iraq externally in order to reflect a bright image of Iraqi tennis.”
