German conductor Justus Franz suffered blood poisoning and was admitted to a hospital in Russia, DPA reported.
He spent two weeks in the intensive care unit of a clinic in St. Petersburg, he was discharged from there, but his treatment must continue.
“It started with the fact that it was difficult for me to walk and every step became a problem for me. Also, I felt tired all the time. I wanted to teach my son, but I could only do it lying down because I was very weak “, the 79-year-old Franz told the Bild newspaper, quoted by DPA.
The conductor visited his 19-year-old son Justus Konstantin, who studies in Russia and lives there with his mother, BTA reported.
When he went to the hospital for a check-up, he found out that his condition was “life-threatening,” as Franz says.
“According to the doctors, I was almost dead,” the conductor claimed. “For two weeks, I wavered between life and death. For me, it was like the phase between waking and sleeping. They were watching me around the clock.”
Franz says he’s feeling better now, but has to stay in the hospital for at least another two weeks. Neither he nor the doctors can say how he got blood poisoning, DPA notes.
