The accident of a marriage of two young women that were run over for one unit of Mexico City Metrobús in TlatelolcoCuauhtémoc mayor’s office, has generated a wave of commotion and demands for justice on social networks.

On April 10, Maya and Renataa couple trying to cross Eje 2 Norte, Manuel González, were hit by public transport, leaving Maya lifeless and Renata seriously injured and with psychological consequences.

As details of the incident emerged online, feminist groups, along with friends and family of the victims, began a campaign to demand a thorough investigation into the events and justice for both women.

It was noted that although the driver involved was initially detained, he was released hours later, sparking even more outrage and calls for action.

In response to public pressure, Metrobús issued a statement expressing its regret for the tragic event and ensuring that they are collaborating closely with the authorities of the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office to clarify what happened.

Additionally, it pledged to provide support to affected families, covering Maya’s funeral expenses and ensuring adequate medical care for Renata.

Metrobús agrees to cooperate in investigation

The Metrobús operating company has also committed to cooperating fully with the investigation, providing all the necessary elements requested by the Prosecutor’s Office for the case.

Likewise, it was mentioned that the Executive Commission for Attention to Victims of Mexico City is ready to provide legal and psychological support to families, if they wish.

The cry for justice has resonated on social media, where the case has been widely shared under the hashtag #JusticiaParaRenYMaya.

The demands range from a thorough and impartial investigation to full reparation for the damage, including financial compensation, full coverage of medical expenses and psychological support for affected families.
