Readers wrote more than 800 thanks to medical workers from all over Lithuania, they received thanks from 1158 patients and colleagues. You can see all of them in the special on the page Thank you to the doctors.

Medical workers are extremely important in everyone’s life, and we all find ourselves in the role of a patient at different stages of our lives, even the doctors themselves. The purpose of the project “Thank the doctors” is not only to introduce the public to doctors who are sensitive to patients’ problems, but also to promote the culture of verbal and not material thanks to doctors and to strengthen the authority of medical workers.

Throughout the project and after, lrytas.lt interviews are published with medical workers, long-term doctors, hospital managers about the often invisible working routine, the relationship with patients.

For doctors, like any specialist, appreciation and thanks are important.

“Doctors of other specialties receive public thanks more often. We, neurologists, less often, because our patients are mostly old people. When saying goodbye, they say a lot of nice words, but they don’t use technology, those thanks don’t go out to the public,” said Rita Stasevičienė, a neurologist at the Utena hospital, in an interview of the “Thank you to the doctors” project.

And Elžbieta Trapenskė, a gastroenterologist-endoscope doctor who grew up in a family of doctors and the head of the LSMU Kaunas Hospital’s Consulting Medical Center, who was showered with thanks from the people of Kaunas, says that recovered patients are the real currency of medicine.

“Patients’ trust is a great incentive and responsibility to continue to improve, not to stop learning after graduation,” says Eugenijus Žvykas, a young doctor who has returned to his native Panevėžys to work.

The project “Thank you to the doctors” is supported by the Ministry of Health (SAM), Kaunas City Polyclinic, Panevėžys Republican Hospital (RPL).

On April 30, 5 at most lrytas.lt Doctors who have received the likes of readers will be awarded at the Lithuanian Meritorious Doctors Awards organized by the Ministry of Health, interviews with them will be published on the portal lrytas.lt, and gifts will be waiting. The prizes were established by Ecosh and other sponsors of the project.

Next Saturday, we will celebrate the Day of Lithuanian Medical Workers, let’s show attention to those who are there in the most difficult times and give all their strength. Thank them with a smile and a sincere thank you.
