The case with the Malakasiou tunnel of Egnatia Odos tends to take on the character of a farce, with the Ministry of Infrastructure assuring that there is no problem, but at the same time “Egnatia Odos AE” requests to remain out of traffic until May 1st.
Of course, there is no official information either from the Ministry of Infrastructure or from “Egnatia Odos SA” since the previous Friday, April 12, the day when it was decided to close the tunnel, in order to carry out a preventive check, although no static deficiency of the construction was found the autopsy that preceded it.
The decision to stop traffic in the northern branch of the twin tunnels “Malakasi A” in the direction of Igoumenitsa was in force until today and it was expected that the decision would be lifted, based on the sensation created by the announcement of the Speaker of the Parliament Kostas Tassoulas after his meeting with the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikolaos Tahiao, who made it known to him that, from the control elements so far, there is no static deficiency of the tunnel.

In simple words, for a tunnel, in which everything is assured that everything is fine and it was closed for a preventive check, in order to dispel the concerns caused by the report of the regional governor that there is a risk of collapse, the check will last 20 days, unless of course new ones are requested extension.
The landscape will be called upon to be clarified by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Nikos Tachiaos, who will be in Ioannina on Sunday and at 1:00 p.m. he will visit the headquarters of the Epirus Region.
