This year’s final of the EPSIP amateur cup was again this year a real football celebration, leaving a very good impression on the approximately 1500 fans who were at the “Zosimades” stadium and on many spectators who saw it from the live broadcast by the local television channel EPIROS TV1 .
Thyella Katsika was better, they justly beat Thyella Eleusas with a score of 5-2 and won the Cup for the second season in a row. The same teams met last year as well, on April 30, 2023, with the Katsika team winning 1-0 with a goal in the 60th minute by Thanasis. This year’s final was essentially decided by the first half where the score was 5-0 in favor of Tyella Katsika with the goals scored by Tourmousoglou, Skandalis (2), Vassilakis and Angelos Pappas. Eleousa was surprised from the beginning, they conceded two quick goals and this was a big disadvantage, in the competitive and psychological field. He drew reactions in the replay where he reduced the score to 5-2 with the goals scored by Tsagas and Geoldasis.
The victory was fair for the Goat Storm who was clearly superior to her opponent. The quality in the roster was seen, which results from the difference in the two categories that separates the two teams. Many people were in the stands of the “Zosimades” stadium, the mayor Thomas Begas, the deputy mayor Stefanos Sintos, the deputy regional governor Vassilis Gorgolis, the vice mayors of the district of Zitsa Dimitris Dimitriou and Vassilis Charlas, the secretary of the NE of PASOK Vassilis Gardikos, municipal and regional councilors and others. Syssomo and the board of directors of EPSIP led by the president Kostas Vrakas. In fact, Mr. Vrakas also awarded the Cup to the captain of the Storm Christos Skandalis, who was also voted MVP of the final with his good performance and the two goals with exemplary penalty kicks. There were also many children from football academies in the area in the stands. The two teams entered the field holding their academies. Also, football players and referees, as well as the coaches, had worn special jerseys with slogans against school bullying and femicide. Football as a very important social event sent its own messages to society.
Football culture prevailed in all the events before and during the final, between the two teams. The two historic clubs were separated by only 90 minutes of football action on the pitch and nothing more. It was a special moment when the players of Thyella Katsika and the coach Nikos Gouras formed an arch outside the hatch and through it passed the coach Anestis Zois and the players of Thyella Eleousa under the continuous applause for winning the title in the A division of EPSIP.
During the half-time break, the two teams honored former footballers and players for their contribution to the teams and to amateur football in general. The former president of Tyella Katsika Anastasios Blatzos, the former player and player Lefteris Lisgaras and the legendary ace Christos Tassis also known as Letsios in the world of football were honored. On the part of Tyella Eleusas, former footballers Giorgos Dasios, Thanasis Tziallas, Nikos Votsikas, Vassiles were honored. Lolas, Vasilios Bletsas, Panagiotis Lolis, Vasilios Moutas, Dimitrios Vassiliou. The honorary plaques were awarded respectively by the presidents of the groups, Alexandros Vartziotis and Yiannis Tassioulas. It is a commendable initiative by the two teams honoring their history. It is an axiom that anyone who does not honor their history is like erasing a piece of their life. Other groups should follow this example. With the opportunity to note, that the teams should take care of the recording of their historical route. They can record the names of presidents, coaches, agents, footballers, collect old photos and whatever other historical evidence exists (cups, banners, publications etc) so that there is something recorded for future generations and the material exists somewhere listed as a historical report of each group. Many things can also be digitized in order to preserve the historical identity of the groups.
The two Storms have another road ahead of them. The cup winner has three crucial games where she will have to cover the difference of 3 points from the relegation line to stay in the C National category. Tomorrow they will welcome Katsikas Vataniakos Katerinis, then they will play in Trikala and finish their duties with the home match against Asteras Lianokladiou Fthiotidas. For this reason, the players celebrated winning the Cup only on the field and then retired to their homes. If everything goes well in the match with Vataniakos tomorrow, there will be a celebration of winning the title.
Thyella Eleousas won the championship in the first amateur category of EPSIP and will take part in the special amateur championship of EPO, where they will claim promotion to the 3rd National Team. The champion teams are divided into groups of 7 teams and will play one match against each other. The first three teams from the standings of these games will rise to the third division. Thyella Eleusas will fight for promotion against the champions of the EPS Etoloakarnania, Preveza/Lefkada, Corfu, Arta, Thesprotia, Kastoria.
