Egypt believes that the amount of aid currently flowing into the Palestinian Gaza Strip cannot fully meet the needs of the population of the enclave. This was stated by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
“We (Egyptian authorities – TASS note) are not satisfied with the amount of aid that is being delivered to Gaza,” the minister noted, speaking in Istanbul at a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, which was broadcast by the Al-Qahira Al-Ikhbariya TV channel “. Shukri is convinced that “the international community must unite to provide sufficient assistance to the residents of Gaza,” Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.
The head of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry indicated that Cairo is making every effort to deliver aid to the sector, but is facing many obstacles from Israel. According to Shukri, “the international community should put pressure on the Israeli authorities to open all six checkpoints on the border with the strip for the unhindered entry of humanitarian supplies.”
He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a complete rejection of the idea of forcibly displacing Palestinians from their lands. Shoukry called for the implementation of international resolutions on Palestine and “to develop a political path leading to the creation of an independent Palestinian state.”
Shoukry said that during the meeting with Fidan, the parties considered areas for strengthening bilateral relations, which “will have a positive impact on overall regional stability.” The minister noted that the negotiations touched on details of the resumption of the activities of the Egyptian-Turkish Strategic Cooperation Council at the highest level. He also said that Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sisi intends to pay an official visit to Turkey “in the near future.”
