North Korea has tested a strategic cruise missile and a new anti-aircraft missile.
According to Yonhap Agency, “North Korea’s Missile Administration conducted a test of the warhead designed for the strategic cruise missile “Hwasal-1 Ra-3,” and also test-fired its new anti-aircraft missile “Biulgi-1-2” in the Yellow Sea,” noting that “A certain goal was achieved through the trial launch.”
“Both tests were part of the usual activities of the administration and its defense science institutes for the rapid development of technologies, and had nothing to do with the surrounding situation,” KCNA said.
It is noteworthy that this is the first time that Pyongyang has called its missile “Biulji,” which means “meteor” in Korean, and the missile test that was conducted represents North Korea’s sixth cruise missile launch this year.
Last February, North Korea conducted what it called “a very large warhead power test for a cruise missile” and test-fired a new type of anti-aircraft missile in the Yellow Sea the day before.
North Korea also said last January that it had conducted a maneuver to launch the strategic cruise missile “Hwasal-2”, to verify the rapid counter-attack situation and improve its strategic striking ability.
