Morocco has launched “a very good initiative for several years by opening up politically and economically to the African continent”, added Edgar Morin, who was the guest of the “Major interview” section, planned as part of the second edition of the Marrakech African Book Festival (FLAM), which continues until Sunday.

Speaking in front of a large audience at the “Etoiles de Jamaâ-el-Fna” Cultural Center, which hosts the festival events, the French philosopher stressed that the cultural aspect is not complementary but occupies a primordial place in relations between Morocco and the countries of the continent.

Edgar Morin emphasized in this sense that the FLAM is precisely within the framework of this policy and this cultural opening of the Kingdom, saying he is “very happy with this Moroccan policy”.

The French philosopher, over a hundred years old, also welcomed his presence in Marrakech to meet the Moroccan and African public, declaring: “Long live Africa, long live Morocco”.

This meeting, held under the theme “Edgar Morin, witness to two centuries, and compass of our time”, was an opportunity to recall the positions of this French philosopher and sociologist on several current issues, notably North-South relations, as well as the special relationship it maintains with the African continent.

This meeting was also marked by tributes paid to Edgar Morin through testimonies, presented in particular by the Senegalese philosopher Souleymane Bachir Diagne, the Moroccan writer and researcher Ali Benmakhlouf and the general delegate of FLAM, Younès Ajarraï.

Supported by the “We African Art” association, FLAM aims to be an eloquent celebration of African literature and culture and aims to bring culture and art closer to the public.

For this second edition of the festival, the programming offers themes reflecting the scientific and editorial news of Africa and devotes a particular place to the reactivation and consolidation of memories and links which unite all Africans wherever they are. .

This event, which allows authors and the public to meet in different forms and daily encounters, also includes concerts, readings and poetry.
