Tomb Raider I-III Remastered was released earlier this year to somewhat mixed reviews, with some technical flaws in particular undermining its entertainment value.

Fortunately, Aspyr heeded the criticism and has been working to fix the issues and add new content ever since. But apparently also the removal of content.

Several social media users are now reporting that posters of Lara Croft that were previously present at the start of the fourth level (Sleeping with the Fishes) in Tomb Raider III have now disappeared following a recent update. The pictures showed some skin, although nothing exactly naked, but apparently it was still above the line.

Previously, Crystal Dynamics was praised for choosing not to modify the old games as they contained some elements that are not entirely compatible with today’s values. Said:

“The games in this collection contain offensive depictions of people and cultures that are rooted in racism and ethnic prejudice. These stereotypes are deeply harmful, inexcusable, and inconsistent with our values at Crystal Dynamics.

Rather than removing this content, we have chosen to present it here in its original form and without modification, in the hope that we can acknowledge and learn from its harmful effects.”

Apparently they decided that these posters were so problematic that they could not be maintained despite this approach, while “offensive depictions of people and cultures rooted in racism and ethnic prejudice” and severe cruelty to animals (often of endangered creatures) always remain are still included in the adventures. However, if you’re playing on a PC, you can change the pictures again.

Check out what the posters looked like in the X post below and what it looks like now. Do you think this was a sensible decision, and is it generally right to remove content from people’s games?
