Byeongyeong-myeon, Gangjin, achieved an all-night vigil with ‘Friday Friday night’. Byeongyeong-myeon, Gangjin-gun, held a fiery Friday bulgogi party and a night out.
According to Gangjin-gun on the 22nd, the county held an opening ceremony for season 2 of Friday night on the 19th.
The Friday night festival, held in Byeongyeong-myeon for two days from Friday to the next day, Saturday, was introduced by the 8th popularly elected Gangjin-gun to overcome the crisis of local population extinction through a large influx of tourists. It presents a new model for local festivals by combining local historical and cultural resources with the festival. It is evaluated that it has been done. Last year, it was selected as a ‘place you want to visit’ by the Korea Tourism Organization and its true value was certified.
Last year’s event, which was a success with over 13,000 tourists visiting the venue, returned for Season 2 to mark the year of Gangjin Half-Price Travel this year.
Over two days, on the 19th and 20th, about 1,100 tourists came to enjoy the late afternoon and night view of Gangjin.
A Vietnamese college student who came to Gwangju to study said, “At the recommendation of a teaching assistant in the department, about 80 international students came to Gangjin together,” and added, “I was so surprised that such a great program exists in rural Korea, which has a similar history to ours, and I had a lot of fun.”
To ensure the success of Friday Night Bulpa Season 2, Gangjin-gun actively targeted the tastes of family tourists and MZ tourists by newly forming one bulgogi restaurant, one snack shop, four stands, and a youth chef zone.
Things to see and enjoy have also been strengthened. The photo zone was strengthened with LED tulips and large flower sculptures, making it a popular photo spot with a spring atmosphere.
In particular, the dance party with EDM DJ, the highlight of Friday night, started at 6:30 PM and lasted for an hour, and tourists and residents came together to brighten up the night in the barracks.
This year’s Friday night, the ‘Hangolmok Open Garden’, which was not present last year, is a new attraction. By walking through the simple gardens in 15 areas, including private houses, public land, and empty village hotels in Byeongyeong-myeon, it naturally became a unique promotional and communication venue to inform tourists about the past and present of Byeongyeong-myeon.
The Hangolmok Open Garden Tour visited the village once a day on Fridays and Saturdays.
A tourist from Gwangju commented, “I took a look at Jeolla Military Fortress, Hamel Memorial Hall, and Hangeolmok by bicycle. I liked it because there were so many places I could enjoy.”
The sales performance of the Friday-Friday Bulpa, which was run by residents, was also good.
The Saemaeul Women’s Association, Youth Chef Zone, Hamel’s Tea Time, Farmer’s Market, and Grandmother’s Market were successful, and the number of participants approached 500. The art market, Hangolmok open garden, Hangolmok story tour, and bicycle tour were popular.
The Hamel Sensibility tent village was also a success. A special night in Gangjin had a positive impact on revitalizing the local economy by expanding into stay-type tourism rather than a one-time visit.
Gangjin-gun departs by bus from U Square Home 3 at 10 a.m. every Friday and Saturday for tourists from the Gwangju area. After completing the schedule, we head back to Gwangju at 7:40 PM. On Friday, the course involves trekking in Gaudo Island via Baekryunsa Temple and Dasan Chodang, visiting Jeolla Byeongyeongseong Fortress and Hamel Memorial Hall, a representative tourist attraction in Byeongyeong-myeon, and then heading to the Bulgeumbulpa event site. You can tour Gangjin’s representative tourist attractions.
On Saturday, the course is to enjoy lunch at Maryangnolto Fishery Market, which opens on the 27th, and Cheongjachon in Daegu-myeon, and then trek to Gaudo Island to the Bulgeumbulpa event site. You can enjoy a variety of representative events in Gangjin, such as the Maryangnolto Fish Market during the day and the Friday Night Bulpa Festival in the evening.
Shuttle buses can be reserved offline through the online Bus One Wheel website or on the first floor of Gwangju Bus Terminal.
Gangjin County Governor Kang Jin-won said, “Bulgeum Bulpa is a new tourism model that connects Gangjin’s representative food, Byeongyeong Pork Bulgogi, with tourist resources. The disappearing Byeongyeong Traditional Market is continuing its legacy with Bulgeum Bulpa and is being transformed into a new tourist attraction.” “By turning the historical and cultural resources of Gangjin into a festival and attracting more tourists to Gangjin, we will create economic effects such as an influx of population,” he said.
Season 2 of Gangjin Friday Night Friday is scheduled to run from 4 PM to 7:30 PM every Friday and Saturday until October 26th.
