With his passion for coffee and extensive experience, Alejandro Griffin-Diaz secured a place among the four best baristas in the world by qualifying for the semi-final round of the London Coffee Masters 2024a prestigious competition that ended on April 14.
Despite not winning the competition, the Guatemalan shared with Guatemala.com that he feels “very lucky to be one of the baristas selected among so many talents. […] Only 32 were chosen, and being among them is a privilege I deeply appreciate. “It is an honor to put Guatemala on the map of coffee lovers.”
Regarding his experience in the competition, Griffin-Díaz highlighted the excitement and challenge of competing with some of the best in the world. In the quarterfinals he obtained the best score of the 8 participants, and this led him to advance to the semifinal, where he obtained fourth place. Something that the Guatemalan stands out about his participation is that he had the opportunity to share his passion for coffee with baristas from all over the world, from countries such as the Philippines, Romania, Japan, London and the United States.
Alejandro thanks the Guatemalans who have followed his career and supported him. For him it is a pride to represent our country in the coffee industry and “make a difference in a place where there are people from all over the world and [demostrar] that in Guatemala there is talent and there are passionate people who work hard and strive to raise the name of the country. “Pleasures of the world”, the innovative specialty drink with which he represented Guatemala in the competition
During the competition, Alejandro successfully created an innovative drink, inspired by different parts of the world, including Guatemala. Using a gas gun, he created edible soap bubbles with raspberry and strawberry fragrances, a distinctive touch that impressed the judges. The drink itself was a symphony of flavors, with notes of peach and vanilla.

With his notable performance at the London Coffee Masters 2024, Griffin-Díaz is looking forward to the future with enthusiasm. In addition to being invited to compete at the Coffee Festival Romania and future editions of the London Coffee Masters, he hopes to participate in the national barista competition at ANACAFÉ to be held in September this year.
