The Internal Security Service in Benghazi justified the cause of the death of political activist Siraj Daghman by falling on his head from a high place while trying to escape from the bathroom window by climbing over sewage pipes.

The agency said in a statement about the incident that the family of the deceased received his body after completing all legal procedures, under the supervision of the Public Prosecution, and proving the causes of death.

The agency vowed to pursue all sponsored pages that aim to spread rumors for the purpose of concealing facts and sowing discord for the benefit of their funders.

For its part, the Crime Monitoring Organization called on the Public Prosecutor to open a comprehensive and independent investigation into the circumstances of Siraj Daghman’s death, which it described as mysterious, to reveal its results, and to hold accountable those responsible for his arbitrary arrest and causing his death.

In its statement regarding the incident, the Crime Monitoring Organization called on the authorities in the east of the country to immediately release his arbitrarily and unconditionally detained comrades.

Local sources had confirmed to Libya Al-Ahrar the death of political activist Siraj Daghman, who was detained in the internal security prisons in the city.

Daghman’s relatives posted on social media on Friday the news of his death after spending more than six months in Internal Security prisons.

Sources close to the Daghman family said that Siraj was arrested in October last year by the Internal Security Service along with his two companions, Fathi Al-Bajaa and Tariq Al-Bashari, without any specific charges against them.

According to the intervention of former Interior Minister Ashour Shawayel, the reasons for the arrest of Daghman and his two companions go back to a workshop in which the attendees talked about the Derna Dam collapse incident, organized in Benghazi by the Center for Strategic and Future Studies.
