New scandal linked to espionage in the European Parliament. A parliamentary assistant to the German far-right candidate, Maximilian Krah, has been arrested, accused by the judicial authorities of that country of spying for China. The Alternative for Germany MEP has assured that he has no knowledge of what happened while the European Parliament has suspended the advisor with immediate effect given the seriousness of the accusations.

It is not the first controversy that surrounds the German far-right candidate, who has good predictions in the elections next June. Krah himself figures in the investigation by Belgian authorities for allegedly receiving payments from Russia. This case analyzes the contacts of MEPs from several countries – Germany, France, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Hungary – with Valdimir Putin’s regime to promote Russian propaganda. Krah’s name is one that has emerged.

In the case of his assistant, German media reports suggest that the authorities suspect that Jian Guo has provided information to China about opponents in that country and matters related to the European Parliament, where he works for Krah. According to the German television channel (ARD), the man offered himself several years ago as an informant to the German authorities who from the beginning suspected him of being a double agent.

The far-right MEP has assured that he has learned from the press about the arrest of his collaborator, which coincided with the celebration of the last plenary session of the legislature in Strasbourg. “I have no more information,” he distanced himself before assuring in the same message from X (formerly Twitter) that “spying for a foreign state is a serious accusation.” “If the accusations were true, this would result in the immediate termination of the employment relationship,” he added.

However, the European Parliament has gone ahead and suspended Jian Guo “with immediate effect” given “the seriousness of the accusations.” “Parliament will collaborate with the competent authorities and carry out the corresponding follow-up,” says a spokesperson for the European Parliament.
