CAN-2023/opening match: Ivory Coast beats Guinea-Bissau (2-0)
Abidjan – The selection of Côte d’Ivoire, host country of the 34th edition of the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN), beat its counterpart from Guinea-Bissau by two goals to zero, in the opening Saturday evening at the Ebimpé Olympic stadium in Abidjan, the most prestigious continental football competition.
The Elephants’ goals during this match, on behalf of the 1st day of group A, were scored by Seko Fofana (4th min) and Jean-Philipe Krasso (58th min).
On behalf of the same group, Nigeria will face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. (GMT+1), while the Group A clash between Ivory Coast and Nigeria will take place on January 18.
Côte d’Ivoire, which is hosting the final phase of this high-profile event in African football from January 13 to February 11 for the second time in its history after the 1984 edition, has great ambitions to win a third trophy after his titles won in 1992 and 2015.
