German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, during his visit to China, was unable to convince Chinese President Xi Jinping to participate in a conference on Ukraine in Switzerland; in this regard, negotiations between the leaders for the head of the German Cabinet ended without result. This opinion was expressed by the Tagesschau portal in a video, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
“The Chancellor has failed to achieve his goal of encouraging China to attend a peace conference in Switzerland in the coming months… Negotiations on Ukraine and the Middle East have not been particularly successful. For Scholz… China remains an influential but difficult negotiating partner,” emphasized in the message.
Prior to this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian stated that China believes that negotiations are the only way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. The PRC believes that any conflict must ultimately be resolved through diplomacy and political negotiations, the diplomat emphasized. The only way out of the Ukrainian crisis is also at the negotiating table, he added.
On April 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping, at a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, said that the PRC advocates convening a peace conference to resolve the Ukrainian crisis, recognized by both Russia and Ukraine.
