“We are obliged to win next Wednesday against Tanzania. It is this meeting which puts us under pressure, because it is decisive for our qualification to the next round and for entering the competition fully,” said Benmahmoud , on the sidelines of a training session held at the Auguste Denise stadium in the city of San Pedro, which will host the Pool F matches, including Morocco, Tanzania, DR Congo and Zambia.
“We can’t wait to start the competition, this evening with the opening match and next Wednesday for us against Tanzania,” he said, stressing that the preparations are taking place in the best possible conditions.
“We were lucky to come to Ivory Coast early to acclimatize well with the conditions here,” he added, noting that “as a staff, coach Oualid Regragui, assistant coach Gharib Amzine and I played in CANs and made mistakes that we do not want to repeat in Ivory Coast,” he insisted.
“We will be dealing with the best African selections. The best prepared and best concentrated team will win the trophy on February 11,” he continued.
For his part, striker Ayoub El Kaabi welcomed the good-natured atmosphere that reigns within the national team, noting that the players are determined to sign an exploit which will remain engraved in the annals of Moroccan football.
“In San Pedro, the humidity is very high but that will not prevent us from defending our chances against any selection,” he assured.
This training session took place in the presence of 23 players, including that of the German club Bayern Leverkusen, Amine Adli, who had left the national team gathering following the death of his mother.
The Moroccan selection will face Tanzania next Wednesday for the first day of Group F at the Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pedro.
