The committee charged with investigating the Kalsu camp explosion issues its final report

Today, Tuesday, the Supreme Technical Committee in charge of investigating the Kalsu Camp explosion issued its final report, confirming that there was no movement of combat aircraft or drones throughout the airspace of Babil Governorate before, during, and after the time of the explosion.

A statement by the Security Media Cell, received by the (INA), stated that, “Based on the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a higher technical committee was formed to investigate the explosion and fire incident that occurred at Camp Kalsu, north of Babil Governorate, at (00:40) of At dawn on Sunday, it includes headquarters, barracks, some warehouses, and weapons sheds for the Defense, Interior, and Popular Mobilization Forces.

The statement added, “The committee consisted of officers and directors with various specializations in the categories of (missiles, artillery, military engineering, forensics, civil defense, in addition to representatives and engineers from the Air Defense Command, the Air Force, Explosives, and Military Manufacturing).”

He pointed out, “The committee began its duties immediately after its formation and was present in the field at the scene of the accident and the surrounding areas. It took samples of soil and the remains of materials scattered as a result of the explosion, and transferred some of them to forensic laboratories for the purpose of analysis.”

He continued, “After an extensive and in-depth study of all the data, the committee issued its final report, which was presented in detail to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, and was approved on 4/23/2024. Below are the most important findings contained in it:

1. The explosion created a very large, irregularly shaped hole at the scene of the accident, which was used to store equipment, missiles, and various explosive materials.

2. The scattered remains of (5) missiles were found (150) meters away from the site of the accident, and the fins of (22) other missiles were found (100) meters away from the explosion site.

3. The size of the crater confirms that there was a very huge explosion of weapons and highly explosive materials that were present in the place.

4. All reports issued by the Air Defense Command confirm that there was no movement of combat aircraft or drones throughout the airspace of Babil Governorate before, during and after the time of the explosion.

5. The intensity of the explosion and the size of the material scattered from projectiles, missiles and explosive materials cannot in any way be affected by a missile or several airborne missiles (their heavy weight).

6. ⁠By examining (soil samples from the hole and some metal pieces of missile remains) inside the laboratories, it was proven that there are three materials, not just one, used in the manufacture of explosives and missiles, which are TNT-Ammonia nitrate and DIBUTYLPHTHALATE All of them are highly explosive materials and are used in the manufacture of military munitions.
