The Undersecretary of Sports of the Nation, Julio Garro, affirmed this Tuesday that Olympic athletes will have the money they need for Paris 2024 despite highlighting that the organization continues “with the same budget as last year”, while he assured that when They assumed “there was no hot water at CENARD” for the athletes.
“We found a scenario where everything is a great delay. There was no hot water for the athletes at CENARD. There are many things to solve: abandoned works, old infrastructure, lack of supplies,” Garro detailed in radio statements. And he added: “We must make the commitment, with the existing employees, to solve what we can. There are many classified athletes who have already been in Paris for months and have their tickets and hotels covered.”
“We are trying to accommodate the issue of scholarships. Today the March ones are collected and we present the April ones to arrive in good order with that. There were two months of transition and it was difficult for us to get that wheel moving. Our priority is that,” continued the former mayor of La Plata.
Along these lines, he remarked: “We have the same budget as last year, in an Olympic year. We are going to have the money we need for the Olympic athletes. In addition, he defended the appointment of Daniel Scioli as Secretary of Tourism, Environment and Sports: “It’s not caste. In a Government you need people with experience, who lead the way,” he said.
Finally, Garro gave his opinion on the arrival of Sports Limited Companies (SAD) to Argentina: “It seems to me that one of the mistakes is to talk about the privatization of a club. It is the members who advance. I am convinced that this is going to start with the smaller clubs. If there are private companies that contribute, why not look for a legal entity?”
