Aligarh: AMU i.e. Aligarh Muslim University got its first woman Vice Chancellor on Monday. Eminent psychologist Professor Naima Khatoon has been named to the top post at a century-old premier educational institution. A notification from the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, said that President Draupadi Murmu, being the Visitor of the University, has appointed Professor Naima Khatoon for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or till she attains the age of 70 years (which is also came first) has been appointed Vice Chancellor. It said clearance has been received from the Election Commission that the appointment does not violate the model code of conduct, provided “there is no publicity or political gain”.
Professor in AMU Women’s College since 2014
Professor Naima Khatoon, who has been the Principal of AMU’s Women’s College since July 2014, has served as Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology. His area of expertise is clinical, health, applied social and spiritual psychology. She is also the Director of the Center for Skill Development and Career Planning, AMU, since October 2015. After completing his PhD in political psychology, he worked at the Center for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, and AMU. She became lecturer in August 1988, associate professor in April 1998, and professor in July 2006. He also taught at the National University of Rwanda for one academic year.
Naima Khatoon participated in international conferences
Professor Naima Khatoon has participated and presented research papers in many national and international conferences. He has also visited many universities in Europe, North America and Asia to deliver lectures. Having authored/co-authored/edited six books and published several papers in journals of national and international repute, he has supervised 15 PhD theses and a large number of dissertations. He also has immense experience in educational administration. He has served as Provost (twice) and Deputy Proctor in Indira Gandhi Hall and Abdullah Hall.
