This has been revealed in the HP Gaming Landscape Study. Under this, 3000 gamers were surveyed across 15 cities in India, highlighting the aspirations, opportunities and ambitions within the gaming industry. The survey revealed that 63% of gamers are more interested in a gaming career and 6 out of 10 gamers are earning more than Rs 6 lakh annually.
The most surprising thing that has come out in this research is that many people are now considering eSports as a career option. 52% of gamers from North India said that they want to participate in e-sports competitions. This is proof that society has now started considering gaming not just as entertainment but also as a good way to make a career. Whereas the parents of North India included in the survey gave mixed responses in terms of adopting gaming as a career option. 53% of parents in North India are confused about whether gaming can be a sustainable career option. Also, 47% of the parents surveyed believe that gaming can be a good source of income.
The allure of gaming goes beyond the thrill of competition, it includes other opportunities ranging from content creation to game development. Notably, 58% of North Indian gamers are making financial gains, with an average annual income from gaming exceeding Rs 6 lakh. This underlines the power of gaming as a career to meet economic needs. At the same time it breaks traditional norms and opens doors to a realm of unprecedented possibilities.
However, unlike any other field, the path to excelling professionally in gaming is not without challenges. Given the increasing demand for skill development, 61% of North Indian gamers are looking for avenues of continuous learning and development.
