US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken begins a three-day visit to China today as he prepares to deliver messages of cooperation and rivalry to Beijing at a time of growing rifts between the world’s two biggest powers. This will be the second visit of E. Blinken to China in less than a year, which confirms the desire of the United States to maintain relations with the global rival at the highest level. But the totality of disagreements between the two countries is so huge and covers such a wide range of issues – from trade and manufacturing, Ukraine, the Taiwan Strait and the Middle East to TikTok future and the illegal importation of the opioid – fentanyl – into the US from China – that experts do not foresee any significant breakthroughs or agreements in the relations between the two countries during the visit.
