Trinidad, UNESCO World Heritage Site

The trip begins in Trinidad, the entire city of which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This place, which was once Cuba’s largest sugarcane plantation, has a huge slave tower. This tower, which overlooked the entire farm from a 45m high landowner, was built to watch over runaway slaves who were tired of hard work in the sugar cane fields.

Ingenios Valley (Valle de los Ingenios) was the world’s largest sugar plantation area. We visited the mansion of one of the wealthiest planters in the sugar industry in the 18th century. Tour the mansion, which is currently operated as a museum, and learn about the history of the thriving sugar cane production as well as the painful history of slaves brought from Africa. Behind the enormous wealth and splendor built up through the sugar industry, there is a heartbreaking history.

Cuba, the country of salsa. Cubans even sublimate their pain into dance. Descendants of black migrant workers on sugar cane farms honor the spirits of their ancestors through dance. Feel the never-ending energy from the powerful dance moves that embody the spirit of resistance and the will to survive. Their dance is part of Cuba’s native religion, Santería.

Matanzas, the home of Santeria. A closer look at Santeria, a religion that is a mixture of African religion and Catholicism. We trace the chronicle of Cuban passion by participating in various dances and ceremonies held at sea.

Another ritual is encountered on the beach of Varadero. It’s a wedding. We meet a couple holding their own wedding with the blue sea and sunset in the background and send our blessings. The end of the trip is a taste of Cuba’s specialties. Lobster is difficult to eat in Korea because it is expensive. However, in Cuba, langostas (lobster), which can be enjoyed for just 10,000 won, are a delicacy among delicacies. What does it taste like?
