With the investments in the material base under the programs of the Ministry of Education and Culture, nearly 3,000 students in Shumen are about to switch to a single-shift mode of education. This was announced by the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, at II OU “Dr. P. Beron”, where he completed his primary education, the press center of the ministry announced.
“My mother, my son, and myself studied here. More importantly, however, hundreds of Bulgarian teachers were trained here, because this is one of the first basic schools in our country, created at a teacher’s institute for the training of high school teachers in the distant 1821,” said Prof. Tsokov. According to him, Bulgarian education has serious traditions that we must preserve and revive. “Students – future teachers, must be trained in classrooms, as it has been over the years,” emphasized the minister.
He explained that he is launching a new European project that will introduce dual education in universities, and a particular focus will be on encouraging the faculties of education to establish partnerships with schools where students’ internships will take place throughout the period of their training.
Minister Tsokov also met with his Bulgarian language teacher, Mrs. Siika Zlateva, who was also his mother’s teacher. She expressed her joy that the school has prepared the current Minister of Education and Science and wished him many more successes. The meeting was also attended by other retired teachers who taught the minister. These are Mrs. Yanka Avramova – his teacher in geography, in biology – Maria Kasabova and Mr. Petar Vasilev – in labor training. The current team of the school, led by the director Pavel Pavlov, also took part in the conversation.
Minister Tsokov also visited Shumen University “Bishop Konstantin Preslavski”, where he talked with the teachers and management about the problems facing the educational institution and the priorities in the development of higher education and science in Bulgaria.
