Chandika Hathurusinghe, the head coach of the Bangladesh team, got busy after coming to Dhaka after the holiday. The selector had a meeting with Pal within less than 24 hours. The day after the meeting, the three-day preparation camp was announced.
A three-day camp will be held in Chittagong from April 26 to 28. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has called 17 cricketers for this camp. 5 members who were not in the last Sri Lanka series have been called to the camp. Shakib Al Hasan’s name is not in the camp team.
The five cricketers are Tanjeed Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Imon, Tanbir Islam, Afif Hossain Dhrub and Saif Uddin. Among them, Tanjeed Hasan Tamim has not yet made his T20 debut.
Hathurusingha has planned a camp to see the condition of the cricketers. With the T20 World Cup ahead, the management is proceeding with the plan so that the alternate cricketers are ready.
After the meeting, selector Hannan Sarkar told RisingBD, ‘We had a meeting with the head coach. The Zimbabwe series, the USA series and the World Cup team were discussed. The coach wanted to see the condition of the cricketers. The main team will be announced at the end of the three-day camp.
That is why cricketers who are not in the T20 team are called to the camp. Shakib, who played only the second Test in the Sri Lanka series, may not be seen in the opening T20 series against Zimbabwe. The world’s best all-rounder is scheduled to return home later this month.
Hannan Sarkar said, ‘We will talk when Shakib comes. May not be in the beginning. No injuries or any other issues. Not called to the camp, Sakibto can come and play whenever.’
With the World Cup ahead, the team management wants to build a team with a mix of experience and youth against Zimbabwe. Someone may be given an opportunity to prepare a substitute in place of someone experienced. The series will start on May 3 in Chittagong and will end on May 12 in Dhaka.
