Four Ecuadorian athletes have secured their participation in the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, after establishing the marks that sealed their passport to the competition. Kiara Rodríguez, Poleth Mendes, Jimmy Caicedo and Estefany López will wear the tricolor to represent Ecuador.
At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Ecuador was strong with the performances of Poleth Mendes and Anaís Mendes, who won gold and bronze, respectively, in the F20 category shot put discipline. Kiara Rodríguez also left her effort on the track, obtaining the bronze medal in the T46 long jump. In addition, Ecuador obtained several Olympic diplomas in Tokyo 2020, with outstanding performances by Darwin Castro, Damián Carcelén, Anderson Colorado, Kiara Rodríguez and Roberto Chalá in various athletic disciplines. These achievements are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Ecuadorian Paralympic athletes and their coaches. One of the new faces that will represent Ecuador in the Paralympic Games is Estefany López, a 32-year-old athlete who has proven to be on par with the best athletes in international competitions.
López, who has stood out in tournaments in Dubai, France, Portugal, Chile, Mexico and other countries, will participate in the discus throwing category, bringing with him the fighting spirit and passion for adapted sports. As we approach the Olympic event in the French capital, the French ambassador to Ecuador, Frédéric Desagneaux, mentioned the historical importance of the Paralympic Games, which will be held for the first time in the country’s history. These games, more than a sporting competition, are an opportunity to celebrate inclusion and diversity, as well as to promote the values of equality and respect. With a focus on sustainability, inclusion and gender equality, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games aim to be a historic event for Ecuadorian representatives.
