A video on social media shows a family putting movie food in bags from some commercial stores. As expected, it went viral, and this brought back the debate every time something like this happens: Is it illegal to bring drinks and food into cinemas? What does the law actually say about these practices? Is there something wrong with doing it or something good with not doing it?
Regardless of whether it looks good or bad, if it was a lack of respect for the rest of the attendees because they brought in food, or if they “broke” the rules of the establishment in question, it would be worth knowing what the law says to be able to issue an informed opinion and not fall into games where what prevails are prejudices or statements without knowledge.

Previously, the employees of the two largest chains in the country checked the backpacks with which the attendees wanted to enter the rooms and if they found food, they asked to throw it away, eat it before entering or leave it in packages, but what does the company really say? Federal Law for Protection of the Consumer about this.
In it article 58 of this federal law, it is noted that:
“The provider of goods, products or services may not deny or condition them to the consumer for reasons of gender, nationality, ethnicity, sexual preference, religion or any other particularity.”
Just then, in the first paragraph of the article, you can read that:
“Providers of goods and services that offer these to the general public may not establish preferences or discrimination with respect to applicants for the service, such as selection of clientele, conditioning of consumption, reservation of the right of admission, exclusion of people with disabilities and “other similar practices, except for causes that affect the safety or tranquility of the establishment, its clients or disabled people, or are based on express provisions of other legal systems.”

Expressly, it does not say whether it is illegal or legal to enter a movie theater with food that is not part of the establishment, that is, it is not specified or described textually. So how could what was said be interpreted? Basically, as long as the food you bring in does not, in a way, bother anyone inside the room, you cannot be denied access.
Finally, although those in charge of the establishments appeal to the importance of the sale of food and drinks for their subsistence, They cannot prohibit you or force you not to enter with whatever you have bought to consume inside the roomssince they cannot condition the provision of the service to what you consume or spend.
