Commissioner of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC). Sheikh Shamsuddin Ahmed said, Bangladesh as a Muslim country has a great demand for Islamic Shariah-based products. If we can bring products based on Islamic Shariah according to the demand, many people will come forward to invest in the capital market.

He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the research seminar of Bangladesh Institute of Capital Market (BICM) on Tuesday (April 23). The event was presided over by the executive president of the institute. Mohammad Tarek.

He said that Bangladesh needs a lot of money to become a developed country by 2041. In this case, the capital market can play an important role as a provider of long-term finance. One should be careful not to be cheated by investing in Islamic Shariah based products in the capital market.

Mejbah Uddin Ahmed, Research Fellow of ISRA Research Management Center of INCEIF University of Malaysia and Industry Expert Member of Shariah Advisory Council of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) presented the keynote paper titled ‘Islamic Capital Market Products and Their Governance’ in the seminar.

The BSEC Commissioner said that BSEC has already taken various steps to protect investors in Shariah-based managed shares or bonds and to support the sector. Already ‘Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Investment Sukuk) Rules, 2019’ and ‘Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (Debt Securities) Rules, 2021’ have been prepared. Shariah Advisory Council constituted by BSEC. He also expressed optimism that if the common people can be encouraged more about Sharia-based products, they will come forward to invest in this sector.

Professor of Finance Department of Dhaka University was present as a special guest in the research seminar. M.
