The Otto René Mansilla Museum was inaugurated, which protects the radio legacy of Guatemala

The rich history of the National Radio of Guatemalaalso known as «The Voice of Guatemala»has found a new home in the newly opened Otto René Mansilla Museum. This space will be opening its doors to preserve and share the evolution of radio broadcasting in the country over the years.

As indicated, the inspiration behind this project arose from the observation of how many pieces of transmission equipment and other artifacts were left forgotten in warehouses after being replaced by technological advances. With the intention of rescuing and giving visibility to this invaluable heritage, the idea of providing the national radio with a space dedicated to its history was conceived.

The opening ceremony, held on April 19, transported guests to a bygone era, when a recording was played in which the voice of the Guatemalan writer and Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Miguel Ángel Asturias, could be heard in a recording from 1938.

The museum is named after Otto René Mansilla, “The Voice of the Coup”, in honor of his exceptional professional career. When visiting the place, visitors will be able to admire a collection of equipment and devices that have been part of radio broadcasting in Guatemala, such as tapes and acetate records. You can also explore the digital music library, where you can listen to old TGW recordings. It should be noted that little by little the amount of digitalized audio in the sound library will increase.
