Members of the British delegation, on a working visit to Morocco, expressed their admiration for the aspects of development experienced by Laâyoune in the economic, social and cultural fields.
The British Conservative Party parliamentarian, Lord Daniel Kanczynski, accompanied by Sir Simon Mayall, indicated that the city of Laâyoune, which he visited for the first time in 2019, has experienced “very remarkable” development in several areas and in all levels.
He welcomed the “particular vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to make the provinces of southern Morocco a platform for sustainable development, like the other provinces of the Kingdom”, noting that the achievements accomplished in Laâyoune could constitute a model to follow in the field of development for the entire region.
Regarding the question of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, Mr. Kanczynski indicated that having addressed written questions to parliament relating to the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, noting the intention to organize a debate on this question in order to give the rest of the parliamentarians convinced of the Moroccan character of the Sahara the opportunity to share their opinions on the matter.
During a meeting with the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, members of the British delegation learned about the all-out efforts deployed by the State, as well as the measures taken to breathe new life into the development dynamic within the framework of the new development model for the southern provinces, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in 2015.
On this occasion, an overview was presented on the developments in the issue of the territorial integrity of Morocco, in particular the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, in addition to the serious and effective commitment to economic, social and legal framework of the region under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
During a meeting with members of the region’s Council, the British parliamentary delegation received a presentation on the various projects carried out within the framework of the new development model for the southern provinces of the Kingdom, and the positive impact of this program in these regions, notably Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra.
The parliamentary delegation was also informed of the potential of the region and the infrastructure it has in various promising economic sectors, as well as the efforts made to ensure sustainable socio-economic development.
This trip was also an opportunity for members of the British delegation to visit a range of development projects in Laâyoune, including the City of Trades and Skills, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and the University Hospital Center.
