American billionaire and owner of the social network X, Elon Musk, spoke out against the ban in the United States on the social network TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, appealing to the principles of freedom of speech.
“In my opinion, although this would be beneficial for Platform X, TikTok should not be banned in the US. Such measures contradict the principles of freedom of speech and expression. This is not what America stands for,” he wrote on his page on the social network X, reports Day.Az with reference to TASS.
In March, the US House of Representatives supported a bill to potentially ban TikTok. Lawmakers propose giving ByteDance six months to sell the social network, otherwise TikTok may be banned in the United States. Congress has also proposed introducing the same restrictive measures for any “adversary-controlled applications” in the future.
The initiative has been sent for consideration to the Senate. Biden previously said he would sign the bill if it was approved by both houses of the legislature. Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, He Yadong, said that the Chinese authorities will take the necessary retaliatory measures in connection with the US intention to ban the social network TikTok. He Yadong stressed that Washington must stop “unreasonable pressure” on foreign enterprises and provide “an open, fair, equitable and non-discriminatory environment for companies from all countries investing in and doing business in the United States.”
