How lrytas.lt says Urtė, she has had to buy spoiled fish more than once in the “Iki” store in Ringaudai, Kaunas district. The last visit is no exception. A few days ago, a woman bought flounder – although the label indicated that the fish was packed the same day, its smell raised suspicions immediately.
“I’m not a big fan of fish, but I understand that if the fish is not fresh, it can have a more pungent smell and is not necessarily spoiled. When I got home and washed it, the smell decreased, but after cooking, the whole house stank,” Urtė recalled.
The very taste of the fish and its structure also turned out to be suspicious – it is said that the fish was completely limp and did not look like one that would be suitable for eating. Therefore, together with the whole family, the woman decided that it was not worth the risk.
On the same evening, the woman addressed the staff of the store herself – she explained the situation and said that this fish should be removed from the market in order not to harm other customers.
Urte was offered to apply for a refund, but that was not the most important thing for the Kaunian.
“The fish has been subject to a promotion, but despite this, it should not be unfit for consumption.” It seems that everyone makes mistakes, it happens to everyone, there is nothing like that, I have never written this to anyone – you throw it away and that’s it. But when the same thing happens again…
“If it was the first time, I wouldn’t have reacted like that. But it’s just starting to get angry, remembering those sufferings. Those who have been poisoned understand what it is. I want to warn other people to be careful,” the woman from Kaunas shared her thoughts.
It is advised not to fry such fish
At that time, Gintarė Kitovė, the press representative of “Iki” for the portal lrytas.lt assured that, upon receiving information about the possibly damaged fish, the flounder in the fresh fish section were checked again. However, no quality violations were allegedly found.
It is stated that seafood and fish products must be checked before they reach the store shelves – according to G. Kitovė, this is done with every received batch. And the temperature in the display cases with ice in the fish department is said to be measured twice a day.
Nevertheless, the shopping network regrets the situation in which the Kaunian woman got into.
“First of all, we are sorry that the customer was not satisfied with the quality of the fish purchased at the “Iki” store. If you really smell the fish after bringing it home, we do not recommend cooking or consuming it.
If you purchase a product of the wrong quality, bring it to the store or contact our information line, we will compensate you for your losses. When we receive complaints about the quality of goods, we always check the products in the store”, G. Kitovė assured.
