The number of marriage contracts concluded in Russia over 10 years has more than tripled. This was reported to Izvestia on February 14 in the press service of the Federal Notary Chamber (FNP).
So, if in 2011 40,215 marriage contracts were concluded, in 2021 – already 148.3 thousand.
“Last year, Russians signed 148.3 thousand marriage contracts, which is 16% of the total number of marriages registered during that period. There is no mass tradition in our country to regulate relations by “soulless contracts”. However, every year there is less and less skepticism, and more and more marriage contracts. Over the past five years, their number has grown by 67%, and if compared with the figures of a decade ago, more than three times,” the FNP said.
It is noted that one of the common reasons for concluding a marriage contract is a mortgage.
“For example, when one of the spouses cannot be a co-borrower due to a bad credit history, lack of “white” income, or for other reasons. In the marriage contract, you can specify that all obligations and risks fall on one partner. Or, on the contrary, share responsibility and living space between both spouses, if the loan was issued by one of them even before going to the registry office, ”the Federal Notary Chamber said.
In January 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed the opinion that a prenuptial agreement cannot be called a good way to organize the life of spouses. According to him, family life should be based on trust.
