New Delhi: Uttarakhand and Goa are gearing up for the Assembly elections 2022. In Uttarakhand, which has 70 constituencies, and Goa, which has 40 seats, the polls will be held in a single phase. Voting is taking place today in all 55 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.

There are 632 candidates in Uttarakhand, including 152 independents. 11,447 polling booths have been set up for 81.72 lakh voters. With 301 candidates, Goa has 11.6 lakh voters. In Goa, 105 polling booths are run by women. Voting will take place in 55 constituencies in 9 districts of Uttar Pradesh. The second phase will decide the districts of Meradabad, Rampur, Shahranpur and Bijnor, which are influential to the Muslim community. A total of 584 candidates are seeking re-election in the second phase.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhoomi and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat are among the prominent candidates in the fray. In Uttar Pradesh, the second phase of polling will be held for 55 assembly seats, out of which 586 candidates are in the fray – Saharanpur, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Amroha, Budaun and Bareilly. Shahjahanpur. In the first phase, the turnout was 62%. Shamli had the highest turnout at 69.40%. Ghaziabad recorded the lowest turnout at 55%. In the third phase, voting will take place in 59 seats in 16 districts. Security has been beefed up at 17,000 polling booths in the state. The fate of 586 candidates will be decided at this stage. In 2017, the BJP won 38 of the 55 seats polled in the second phase. The SP and the Congress, which contested in the alliance, won 15 and two seats respectively.

Leading leaders in the second phase are Assam Khan, who is contesting from Rampur, and Suresh Khanna, a state finance minister from Shahjahanpur. Khan’s son Abdullah is contesting from Swar constituency.

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, polling is underway for 70 seats in 13 districts. Uttarakhand has 81 lakh and 632 candidates, including 152 independents. Chief Minister Dhami and his cabinet ministers Satpal Maharaj, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Dhan Singh Rawat and Rekha Arya will be among the top candidates tomorrow.

Dhami is contesting from his current assembly constituency of Khatima while four-time MLA and state BJP president Madan Kaushik is contesting from Haridwar. Minister Dhan Singh Rawat is contesting from Srinagar against state Congress president Ganesh Godial.

In Uttarakhand, which has 11,697 polling booths, polling will begin at 8 am and end at 6 pm. This is the fifth assembly election in the state since its formation in 2000.
