National boxer Rami Kewan won the European title in the category up to 75 kilograms at the Old Continent Championships for men and women in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

Despite the difficulties he encountered in the final match, Kewan reached the gold medal. Under the guidance of coaches Joel Arate, Valentin Poptolev and Alexander Alexandrov, the national team prevailed in a bloody battle over the Russian Dzhambulat Bizhamov.

Kewan showed great character. He fell behind after the first round on the judges’ cards, but he didn’t give up. The national threw himself forward with all his strength and turned the tide of the match for a unanimous decision, although the Russian opened an arcade with a dirty shot.

In the category up to 57 kilograms, Javier Ibáñez took a silver medal after losing 1:4 votes to the Russian Eduard Savin. The two made a very strong match, in which the national team went forward, looking for the victory. The opponents engaged in a heavy exchange of blows during all three rounds, but the judges gave their preferences in the direction of Savin.

The final match of Radoslav Rosenov in the 60-kilogram category developed in a similar way. The six-time European junior and youth champion lost to Vsevolod Shumkov in an equal battle. The 20-year-old Bulgarian attacked the Russian from the start, but his momentum was halted in the second round when the ring judge awarded him a penalty point for holding. Rosenov’s attempts to turn the tide in the third part were not enough, and he was also left with a silver medal.
