/ The American news network CNBC News quoted officials as saying that Israel and the United States believe that Iran is about to respond to the Israeli bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
Last Monday, Israel bombed the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and killed a number of senior commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, according to the Pentagon.
According to CNBC News, the United States obtained intelligence information indicating that Iran is planning a retaliatory attack that includes a swarm of “martyr” drones and cruise missiles.
The American news network pointed out that there is another important matter that is unknown, which is the place where the drones and missiles will be launched – from Iraq or Syria, which may prompt Tehran to deny – or from Iranian territory.
A public funeral was held in Tehran on Friday for the seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who were killed in the suspected Israeli raid in Damascus, including two generals.
Officials say the timing and target are unknown, but a proportionate response to the Damascus attack would be to strike an Israeli diplomatic facility. The attack is likely to come between now and the end of the month of Ramadan next week, as reported by the American News Network.
A CNBC News correspondent in Iran said that the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, General Hossein Salami, warned during the funeral that Israel “cannot escape the consequences” of the assassination of Iranian military officers, but he did not provide any indication about how or when he might Iran takes revenge.
Seeking to prevent Iranian retaliation against facilities linked to the United States, Biden administration officials asserted that the United States had no advance notice of the strike.
White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said that President Biden discussed Iranian threats to Israel in his Thursday phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
He added, “There was a discussion between the two leaders about the practical and public threat that Iran poses to Israel’s security, and the President made it very clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that he could count on American support.
The Israelis openly warn of Iranian retaliation, so an Iranian attack on an Israeli facility would be another step closer to a regional war.
