The water began to surround the sheep grazing in the meadow of the village of Pašilii after a strong rise in the water level of the Nevėžis River.

The water overflowed the banks and flooded the meadows where the sheep were grazing.

About 300 meters separated the sheep that fell into the water trap from the safe place.

Firefighters who were called initially floated the little lambs to a safe place.

After analyzing the flooded meadow, the route of the animals was determined and marked. A second time, two more sheep were brought in by rescue boat.

Another six sheep were transported by their owner’s rubber boat.

The animals on the flooded island were very distracted and it was difficult to control them. Therefore, it was decided to ask for help from the 5th team of Kaunas firefighters.

After the arrival of additional forces, it was possible to transport the animals in larger quantities to a safe place.

After more than half of the animals were moved from the water, the other sheep began to swim to the collection point on their own.

The five sheep got scared and started to swim in other directions, they were already tired and started to drown.

They were also washed ashore in various places.

Later, all the animals were brought to one fenced place by rescue boats.

Firefighters managed to save 47 sheep. Three sheep were pulled out of the water already dead.
