Chairman of the Milli Majlis (parliament) Sahiba Gafarova, as part of an official visit to Montenegro, met with the President of this country, Yakov Milatovich.

The Chairman of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, conveyed the greetings of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to the head of state of Montenegro, and presented him with a letter inviting him to take part in COP29.

President Yakov Milatovich emphasized that Azerbaijan is a friendly country for Montenegro and noted that relations between the two countries are developing. Saying that Azerbaijan is one of the main investors in Montenegro, Yakov Milatovich expressed satisfaction with the high level of cooperation, especially in the field of tourism.

Congratulating Azerbaijan on hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Climate Change (COP29), Yakov Milatovich recalled with satisfaction the meeting with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Dubai within the framework of COP28.

He conveyed congratulations on the confident victory of President Ilham Aliyev in the presidential elections that took place in Azerbaijan this year. It was noted that members of the Montenegro parliament also observed these elections.

The importance of further expanding the legal framework between the two countries and signing new agreements was emphasized at the meeting. It was noted that strengthening the work of the commission on economic cooperation will contribute to the further expansion of relations in this area. During the conversation, the importance of strengthening ties in the humanitarian sphere and contacts between people was also noted.

During the conversation, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis, criticizing biased campaigns and pressure on Azerbaijan in some international organizations, said that Azerbaijan is following its own path. She also informed about the delimitation process between the two countries, expressing hope for the speedy signing of a peace agreement. It was noted that as a result of the negotiations, Armenia agreed to return 4 occupied villages to Azerbaijan.

The Chairman of the Milli Majlis expressed her opinion regarding the prospects for opening transport lines in the region. She mentioned that restoring transport and communications would benefit the entire region. Noting that large-scale restoration and reconstruction work is currently being carried out in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that new cities and villages are being built in these territories. She also spoke about the role of Azerbaijan as a reliable energy supplier to Europe.

President Yakov Milatovich expressed hope for the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia and noted that it would contribute to the development of the region.

The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest.
