He wants to stem the violence of part of the youth. Gabriel Attal begins this Monday with Mathilde Panot (LFI) his consultations with political groups aimed at arriving at proposals on the subject. The Prime Minister will receive the leader of the deputies of France Insoumise and the coordinator of LFI Manuel Bompard at 5:30 p.m., according to Matignon’s agenda. The interview will focus “in particular (on) the responses to be provided in terms of prevention and management of juvenile delinquency”.
The meeting takes place after the death this Saturday evening of a 15-year-old minor in Châteauroux (Indre) in a stabbing fight. The alleged perpetrator, also aged 15, was arrested, Agnès Auboin, public prosecutor in Châteauroux, said this Sunday.
Several measures already announced
Gabriel Attal also received on Friday, on the same subject, the President of the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, after having lunch this Tuesday with mayors of cities hit by the riots of the summer of 2023 which had involved very young people people.
The head of government announced on April 18 a series of measures to deal with the “addiction to violence” of certain young people. In particular, he wanted disruptive students to be “sanctioned” in obtaining their school diplomas. “The condition for erasing this mention” would be “the carrying out of activities of general interest and of course, keeping oneself in line,” he said.
On the judicial side, he said he was ready to open the debate on “mitigations of the minority excuse” in criminal convictions and on the possibility of “establishing an immediate appearance before the court for young people from 16 years old.” He also insisted on parental responsibility. These consultations must be the subject of a progress update in four weeks and a conclusion in two months.
